The Failure Analysis Engineer is responsible for identifying the root cause of failure, testing, and diagnosing products, monitoring product behaviour, writing, and sharing reports, drawing conclusions on occurring failures and making recommendations.

The role is varied and involves both bench test using electronic test equipment and custom software and physical failure analysis. The FA engineer will also be involved in developing electronic and physical failure analysis techniques. The role involves interaction with internal departments at a technical level, suppliers and external labs and customers.

  • The role involves the use of equipment for electrical measurement of ASIC devices such as oscilloscopes, signal generators and spectrum analysers and the use and maintenance of failure analysis tools for inspection such as microscopes, SEM and EDX and de-processing of devices.
  • The role requires the ability to use bench test equipment (power supplies, oscilloscopes, spectrum analysers) and familiarity with programming languages involved in testing and data analysis (particularly python and LabVIEW).
  • It is desirable that the candidate has a knowledge of laboratory work and the use of microscopes and chemical safety and familiarity with failure analysis methodology such as 8D problem solving.
